Divergent by Veronica Roth

In Divergent by Veronica Roth, the story follows Beatrice Prior and her family.  They live in the Abnegation faction, a faction who are very selfless and do everything for others.   Beatrice gets pretty tired of being so selfless, and she thinks it’s getting a little boring.  So on Choosing Day, Beatrice chooses a different faction out of the five factions; Amity, Dauntless, Candor, Erudite, and her own faction, Abnegation.   She ends up choosing Dauntless and changes her name to Tris.  From then on, Tris thinks she is just an Abnegation-born weakling.   She builds up her strength to make it to the top of the rankings!   Even before the Dauntless initiation, Tris has to hide that she is Divergent, which means she qualified for more than one faction in the aptitude test.  Can Tris fight her way back to the top, with everyone jealous of an Abnegation-born sixteen-year old?   If you want to find out if Tris keeps fighting in Dauntless or goes back to Abnegation, read Divergent!  This book made me laugh at some points because of how some of the characters talked to each other and described each other.   I would recommend this book to fans of action, sci-fi and the future.

Have you heard of the Divergent series?  Well, Divergent is a science fiction book about a 16 year old girl named Beatrice Prior or Tris, as the Dauntless know her.  Tris is Divergent, which means that during a simulation test you are able to make items appear because you realize what you are seeing is not real.  Tris realizes that she should not have chosen Dauntless. “One choice will destroy you.” The author, Veronica Roth wrote this book to entertain people.  It has a lot of cliff hanger endings, and twists in the story plot to keep you very intrigued.  What will Tris will do about the Dauntless?  Read the book to find out.

  1. I haven't read this book, but I was at the movies this weekend and saw that they had turned it into a movie. To be honest the movie trailer looked interesting, but I thought your review gave me a better idea if what the book was about. Now I have to buy the book and read it! Do you think it will be a book I can add to the library,r is it more for junior high students?

    1. I wrote this comment a year ago, and then promptly read the book. Recommended it to my husband and kids, who read the book. Then we read the entire series, and now we're in the process of watching all the movies as they come out. And that, is the power of a good book review!

  2. This comment is for skiolimpics101. Nice job on your review. I do have a question for you though, do you think there was any message in the series from the author to the reader? Think about how someone who is divergent, has more than one character trait. How they can fit in with a lot of different factions, not just one.
