Old school by Jeff Kinney

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Old School by Jeff Kinney has some interesting characters. Greg Heffley, is a boy that has a lot of problems through the whole book and he is the main character. Then there is Rowley, which is Greg’s best friend. He can get a bit annoying sometimes in the book. Then Rodrick the bully, well he’s not much of a bully, but he treats everyone a bit badly, especially his little brother Greg. This book is super funny, fun to read, and has funny problems they have to face throughout!
I like this book because when I was growing up, there were no good books to read. But that's when Diary Of A Wimpy Kid came out, and this one is my favorite one so far. I like this one the most because it reminds me of my life sometimes, like when I  was having a lot of funny problems in my life. It turned out that it wasn’t that funny for the ones laughing right now.

Old school by Jeff Kinney is a great book. The plot involves going electronic free but Greg isn’t cut out for the old-fashioned life. Can Greg survive old school?

This book feels like an original. If you read all the other books you would love this book. I love this book because it gives me a feel that many books don’t, which is that it just made me want to read it. The diary of a wimpy kid series is really the only one that makes me want to read and read. What I would not be able to give up is probably my phone because I always have my phone with me and I just wouldn’t be able to give it away. What device would be hard for you to give up?

Nerds by Michael Buckley

In the book, Nerds by Michael Buckley, there is a girl who is fighting a scientist. The scientist is on a train fighting the girl.  She is about to fall off when she catches herself. Then the liquid spills out and all over them. The characters are nerds who were being bullied so they become scientists. The villains are attacking the science nerds.

I think my rating for this book would be a five star. You should read this if you like action. I like action stories because it’s described very well. NERDS, stands for National Espionage Rescue and Defense Society. The NERDS fight villains. I like how the books in this series are set up.

Silver Eyes by Kira Breed-Wrisley and Scott Cawthon

One event in this book, Silver Eyes by Kira Breed-Wrisley and Scott Cawthon, is when Dave leaves town looking fat. Then Dave comes back looking skinny with scratch marks all over his body. The reason this happened is because Dave got in the spring bonnie suit taking Charlie’s brother Sammy and he was never seen again. That’s when Dave left town and came back with marks but he got the marks from the spring bonnie suit: a spring lock suit is a wearable animatronic suit that spring locks the animatronic in place so you could get in, but if the spring locks come loose you can die. Dave wore the spring bonnie suit causing a malfunction and was spring locked and nearly died. The reason why he used the suit was to lure kids and murder them in the back room because the animatronics were damaged at Freddy Fazbear’s pizza and used the kids’ bodies to repair the animatronics and now the kids are haunting the animatronics and hunting Dave in Freddy’s because he’s the night guard.

I like this book because it’s based off my favorite thing FNAF a horror game. This is also a book that is about a mystery and I like mystery books.  I also like horror because of all the hype.

Breakaway: Beyond the Goad by Alex Morgan

Breakaway: Beyond the Goal by Alex Morgan is a good book because it tells you facts about the gold medalist American soccer player. Alex Morgan started playing soccer when she was little. Now she plays on the national soccer team. My opinion about this book is I really like this book because me and Alex have a lot of things in common.

Alex Morgan and I have a lot of things in common. Me and Alex both got injured and sprained our ankles. We also both broke a foot. Alex also had another big problem that could've ruined her career.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars by Erik Stevens

Star Wars: The Clone Wars by Erik Stevens is about a jedi, Anakin Skywalker, and his padawan, Ahsoka.  They fight the bad droids.  Their enemies are Count Dooku, General Grievous, Cad Bane, and much more.  They fight in crazy battles almost to the death.

I like Star Wars because when I was a little kid I used to watch all the shows, watch all the movies, read all the books, and play all of the lego games. It was the only thing I liked when I was a kid and I still like Star Wars books.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling is interesting. It is for grades 4-8. It is about a wizard that goes to a witchcraft and wizardry school called Hogwarts. His name is Harry Potter. His parents have died from The Evil Lord Voldemort, so he lives with his mean uncle, aunt, and cousin. He finds that he has a godfather that is a “Murderer” and his godfather has escaped a torturing prison called Azkaban.  But Harry's friend's pet rat is really the culprit…Harry has to go back in time to save his godfather.

I think this book is entertaining and suspenseful. Every page is exciting and interesting. When I first read it, I thought I was never going to finish it because it was so long! But I read it really fast because it was super interesting. I recommend reading the book and then watching the movie.

I connect to this book because the characters are sort of around my age. They are around 10-13 years old. I also connect to this book because when the characters are at school, sometimes it's hard. Sometimes when I'm at school it is also hard. Another reason I think this book connects to me is because one of the main characters, Harry Potter, has 2 close friends. I have 2 friends in my class and 1 not in my school. I think I really connected with this book!

Review by -mmm402

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is written by J.K. Rowling. When I first read this book it caught me off guard. This book is the third book of the Harry potter series!  This book focuses on Harry potter the young wizard. In this book Harry is in his third year at Hogwarts.  Harry faces many problems but overcomes them with a Zap! Harry will go through many adventures with friends and family!

The reason why I like The Harry Potter series is because I feel that these books can make you feel many different emotions. Like happy, sad, mad, scared, and very weird. Another reason why I like this book is because I like to read about fairytales. If you do too, then Harry Potter is the book for you.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Hunger Games: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is the second book in the Hunger Games series. It is about how the districts are rebelling against the capitol and evil President Snow. President Snow wants everyone to know the capitol is boss. Past winners Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark go back in the arena and team up with other tributes to rebel and defeat the Capitol.

I personally love this book by, Suzanne Collins. It is one of my favorite books in the series. I think the beginning is pretty slow, but once you get into the book you really get into the book! I recommend it for people who love action.

Once they finally enter the hunger games a guy named Finnick Odair and Mags team up with Katniss and Peeta. Now they can only hope to survive from the other victors. But after the hunger games something changes about Peeta.

I would recommend this book because it’s a good series with lots of suspense, action, and more. It also has both a book series and a movie series. It's a great book to read at night. This is why I would recommend The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Land of Stories: the Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer

In Land of Stories: the Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer, the two main characters, Alex and Conner, are having a bad year. Alex wishes for a way to get out of reality. One day the twins grandma gives them a book called, The Land of Stories. After a day it starts to glow and hum.  The twins find out that the book is a portal. They jump in and an adventure begins!

I can relate to this book from when I was at my old school and I was feeling stressed out and I wanted to leave that school. Now I'm at a better school! I wish that the twins had a better way back from the portal. You’ll have to read the book to find out how the portal works.

Homeless bird, by Gloria Whelan

Homeless bird, by Gloria Whelan, is a wonderful book for readers interested in realistic fiction. It is about a girl, Koly who is thirteen years old and lives in India. Her Mom and Dad were looking for someone for her to marry. They find a boy who was supposedly 16 and in good health… Read it to find out what happens next.

I really liked this book because it made me understand how this girl felt, when she found out what had happened to her husband. I have never read a book like this, and I am glad I took the chance to read it. This book was very heartwarming, and it made me realize how lucky I am to have a life like mine.

Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm

Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm is a very good book. I like the book because there is this girl named Sunny. She is on a summer vacay with her grandpa. Her grandpa took her to Disney world. She didn't think that it was going to be a good idea because her brother is kind of a troublemaker.  The book was very intense.

This book is really good I love it and my favorite part is when Sunny was at a New Year's party, when her brother hit her in the face and she started crying. She couldn't believe that her brother hit her in the face. He hit her because she didn’t take his side and give him an excuse for being late. That was when the book got really intense. Will they work it out?       READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

Dante's Inferno by Dante Alighieri

The book Dante's Inferno by Dante Alighieri is the book I will be reviewing. It’s an amazing book where you follow Dante into hell so he can find his wife. Although most copies of the book were in Italian, I was able to get an English copy for the review.

SPOILER WARNING!!!!

The book starts when the main character “Dante” ventures to hell's gate to find his wife. He begins his quest in limbo. He meets the three headed dog that guards hell's gate.  Dante defeats it and continues on to limbo, the first place he must go to. He arrives there by taking the Charon ferry across the river of Woe. While going through limbo he sees the souls trapped there. The next place he must go is lust, where those who committed the sin of lust are kept. I don't want to go any further with the plot. I suggest you read the book first.

END OF SPOILERS!!!!
I would rate the book a 9 out of 10. If you have a heart of glass I don't suggest this book. This book is dark in tone. The book is an amazing book and I recommend it to anyone who is at least over the age of 10. My connection to this book is that it was a book that had lots of emotion and had an amazing and fulfilling ending.

Midnight Rider by Joan Hiatt Harlow

Midnight Rider by Joan Hiatt Harlow is a story about a girl named Hannah who’s aunt sends her to the General’s mansion to be a servant. While Hannah is there she discovers her horse Promise with another owner. It turns out her aunt sold her horse to a rich family’s son, Will. Hannah’s father gave her the horse when she was four. He always kept that promise that she would get a horse. A few years later her mother and father died of smallpox. Hannah was forced to live with her aunt. Her aunt was the one who sent her to be a servant to the General. While she was there she found out she would be the General’s Niece’s chambermaid.

My book reminds me of the book Because of Winn-Dixie because of the problems both of the girls run into. My book also reminds me of the time I found a cat and I kept it with out my dad knowing. My favorite part of the book is when Hannah finds Gypsy, her kitty and loses him and goes through trouble to find him.

Zombie Baseball beatdown by Paolo Baciagalupi

Zombie Baseball beatdown by Paolo Bacigalupi is a great book about a kid called Rabi that sees his coach as a zombie and the government told him to keep it as a secret. His friends also saw the zombie. So they have to keep it a secret and if any zombies try to eat them, they got three baseball bats to kill it. Will Rabi get bit? Or will he survive the apocalypse?

The book is great and you should read it! I love that it connects to his problems in the real world turning into him being a hero and trying to kill the zombies. It reminds me of when I played baseball. He was just like me because none of my teammates would’ve cooperated.

When you read Whatever After Sink or Swim, you can’t put it down!  Abby and her brother Jonah have a magic mirror in their basement that brings them to a fairy tale world, from Beauty and the Beast to the Little Mermaid!

In this book they go to the fairy tale land of the Little Mermaid. I have seen the movie the Little Mermaid. The sad thing is that mermaids aren't real. But I have been in the ocean before. Will Abby and Jonah save the Little mermaid?

Hero by Sara Lean

In the book Hero by Sara Lean, a little boy was in a store called Sonic Boom, when suddenly he felt the ground shake.  His dog was right next to him. He ran outside, but then the ground collapsed, the dog fell into the sinkhole.  The little boy stayed at the side of the sinkhole with his dog.  Read the book Hero, to find out what happened to the poor dog in the sinkhole.

This book reminds me of a something that I read in a newspaper.  It was about when a sinkhole happened in Pennsylvania.  Nobody died, but several people were injured and they had to close the road for more than 5 months.

A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

In the book Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket, there are three children called the Baudelaire children. They are put in a very unpleasant situation. Their parents died in a very bad fire in their house. So now they have another guardian that watches them. They go through lots of stress. Read it and you’ll find out about this terrible guardian.

This story reminds me of my childhood. Not what was happening to the Baudelaire children, but I was always told tales. These tales were very mysterious, just like the one in this book. It keeps me curious. I honestly recommend you read this book. This book has unpleasant tales, but there was nothing stopping me from putting it down. There are very mysterious things happening every moment.

Review by Baller#30

The book I read was the Bad Beginning, by Lemony Snicket, (Daniel Handler). This book is about the Baudelaire orphans Sunny, Klaus, and Violet whose parents have died. The children now live with a terrible man named Count Olaf who wants to take all their money. Read to find out if Count Olaf gets their money.
What I liked about the book was that it was a page turner. It really made me want to keep reading. The book is one in a series so you could learn more about the characters and their problems. The reason why I liked this book was because I have a brother and a little sister and we are all curious about something different, just like they are in the book.

The series of unfortunate events: Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is about three children whose parents die and they move into a disgusting house with an evil man named Count Olaf. Count Olaf tries to steal the Baudelaire’s money.

I thought the book was very interesting and a bit creepy.  It was creepy because of all the things that Count Olaf did to the Baudelaire’s family. For example, He made Violet marry him so he could steal the money they had. Will they escape?

A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is a thriller story. This book has so many twists and turns that you can never predict what is going to happen. It starts as a tragedy by losing something important, jumps to abuse, to horrible acting, and child like spying to save one another.

I like this book because I feel like I’m a little bit of each character. I think I can be quick on my feet and come up with inventive ideas like Violet. I am like Claus because we both like to study stuff and we are both cautious with stuff. Also, even though I am cautious I sometimes like to take risks.

Homestuck is a webcomic created by Andrew Hussie

Homestuck is a webcomic created by Andrew Hussie. This is not your ordinary story, not at all. It has reader participation, also known as a game with music, animations with music, amazing characters and plots! This webcomic starts out on the main character, John Egbert’s 13th birthday, April 13th 2009 (Also the day homestuck started), in his room. Him and his friends get a game called Sburb, which teleports them to other worlds, LOWAS, LOLAR, LOHAC, and LOFAF, each belonging to a specific character. John Egbert, Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider and Jade Harley are the four characters first introduced in homestuck, during the first three acts out of Seven. Almost every character is 13 years old.

Homestuck can make you Upset, Laugh your butt off, cry, smile, and want to beat the life out of some characters. But nonetheless it’s amazing. This webcomic literally changed my life. It helped me make new friends and give me cosplay idea’s! The best part though, is that it can relate to SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE! Karkat is un-confident, like many real life 13 year olds. Eridan is a Hipster who thinks no one likes him, like most 13 year olds. Cronus is a bully, like most 13 year olds. You get the gist. But I can relate to almost every single character in this comic. It’s so amazing. I hope this webcomic sparks your interest!

100 facts you should know: Weather by Clare Oliver

100 facts you should know: Weather is by Clare Oliver. This book has facts about weather and what would happen if you were inside it. There are tornados, hurricanes and microbursts. Tornadoes form in flat land and hurricanes form along the beach on the coast. If you are in the midwest you get tornados, if you are on the south coast you get hurricanes.

I like this book because weather can be severe or cold snow. Snow is fun, because you go sledding, build a snowman or igloo. In severe weather you have to hide in a bathroom, cellar or in a shelter outside. I like to read books that have facts and nonfiction.

The Wizard Of Oz by L.Frank Baum

The Wizard Of Oz by L.Frank Baum is a fiction book for readers interested in action. Dorothy is struck by a life changing tornado. Dorothy and Toto, her Cairn Terrier, are stranded alone on the wonderful Land of Oz. Dorothy meets many different creatures in this magical land. They all have a wish to ask the Wizard to grant. Will Dorothy’s wish be granted? Will she find her way home?

I really like this book because it is full of adventure. I’ve watched the movie since I was little. This is a classic book full of magic. I love the idea of having a young girl scared and alone in the Land of Oz, but it turns out a once in a lifetime experience. The part when she clicked her shoes together made me feel happy. Battle Heroes: Voices From Afghanistan by Allan Zullo

Battle Heroes: Voices From Afghanistan by Allan Zullo is a great book. It is action packed and has a lot of thrills. It is one of those books that has multiple stories in one book. My favorite story is when a doctor has to run through the battlefield unprotected with no weapons and save a soldier from a severe bullet wound. Then he runs a quarter of a mile back to the helicopter with a soldier on his back. If you enjoy this book, Allen has a whole series of similar books.

I liked this book a lot because it reminds me of when my great grandfather and my papa used to tell me stories about when they were in the war. This book brought me back to the days that they used to tell me stories. If you like action packed books and books that keep you on your heels this is the right book for you.

The plot of the story is that the U.S. Navy Seals need to do very dangerous missions to protect their country from terrorists and disarm any enemy bombs. What dangers will you read about in the stories? I would say this is for grades 4-6.

Dogs of War by Sheila Keenan is a great book for dog lovers. It shows that dogs do a lot for our country.  The book tells the stories of amazing war dogs. War dogs are more than helpers they also give soldiers comfort. The three dogs in the book are inspiring even though they’re dogs. They go through the war with their heads held high. The book also has a variation of settings from tundra to jungle.
