A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

In the book Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket, there are three children called the Baudelaire children. They are put in a very unpleasant situation. Their parents died in a very bad fire in their house. So now they have another guardian that watches them. They go through lots of stress. Read it and you’ll find out about this terrible guardian.

This story reminds me of my childhood. Not what was happening to the Baudelaire children, but I was always told tales. These tales were very mysterious, just like the one in this book. It keeps me curious. I honestly recommend you read this book. This book has unpleasant tales, but there was nothing stopping me from putting it down. There are very mysterious things happening every moment.

Review by Baller#30

The book I read was the Bad Beginning, by Lemony Snicket, (Daniel Handler). This book is about the Baudelaire orphans Sunny, Klaus, and Violet whose parents have died. The children now live with a terrible man named Count Olaf who wants to take all their money. Read to find out if Count Olaf gets their money.
What I liked about the book was that it was a page turner. It really made me want to keep reading. The book is one in a series so you could learn more about the characters and their problems. The reason why I liked this book was because I have a brother and a little sister and we are all curious about something different, just like they are in the book.

The series of unfortunate events: Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is about three children whose parents die and they move into a disgusting house with an evil man named Count Olaf. Count Olaf tries to steal the Baudelaire’s money.

I thought the book was very interesting and a bit creepy.  It was creepy because of all the things that Count Olaf did to the Baudelaire’s family. For example, He made Violet marry him so he could steal the money they had. Will they escape?

A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is a thriller story. This book has so many twists and turns that you can never predict what is going to happen. It starts as a tragedy by losing something important, jumps to abuse, to horrible acting, and child like spying to save one another.

I like this book because I feel like I’m a little bit of each character. I think I can be quick on my feet and come up with inventive ideas like Violet. I am like Claus because we both like to study stuff and we are both cautious with stuff. Also, even though I am cautious I sometimes like to take risks.

Homestuck is a webcomic created by Andrew Hussie

Homestuck is a webcomic created by Andrew Hussie. This is not your ordinary story, not at all. It has reader participation, also known as a game with music, animations with music, amazing characters and plots! This webcomic starts out on the main character, John Egbert’s 13th birthday, April 13th 2009 (Also the day homestuck started), in his room. Him and his friends get a game called Sburb, which teleports them to other worlds, LOWAS, LOLAR, LOHAC, and LOFAF, each belonging to a specific character. John Egbert, Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider and Jade Harley are the four characters first introduced in homestuck, during the first three acts out of Seven. Almost every character is 13 years old.

Homestuck can make you Upset, Laugh your butt off, cry, smile, and want to beat the life out of some characters. But nonetheless it’s amazing. This webcomic literally changed my life. It helped me make new friends and give me cosplay idea’s! The best part though, is that it can relate to SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE! Karkat is un-confident, like many real life 13 year olds. Eridan is a Hipster who thinks no one likes him, like most 13 year olds. Cronus is a bully, like most 13 year olds. You get the gist. But I can relate to almost every single character in this comic. It’s so amazing. I hope this webcomic sparks your interest!

100 facts you should know: Weather by Clare Oliver

100 facts you should know: Weather is by Clare Oliver. This book has facts about weather and what would happen if you were inside it. There are tornados, hurricanes and microbursts. Tornadoes form in flat land and hurricanes form along the beach on the coast. If you are in the midwest you get tornados, if you are on the south coast you get hurricanes.

I like this book because weather can be severe or cold snow. Snow is fun, because you go sledding, build a snowman or igloo. In severe weather you have to hide in a bathroom, cellar or in a shelter outside. I like to read books that have facts and nonfiction.

The Wizard Of Oz by L.Frank Baum

The Wizard Of Oz by L.Frank Baum is a fiction book for readers interested in action. Dorothy is struck by a life changing tornado. Dorothy and Toto, her Cairn Terrier, are stranded alone on the wonderful Land of Oz. Dorothy meets many different creatures in this magical land. They all have a wish to ask the Wizard to grant. Will Dorothy’s wish be granted? Will she find her way home?

I really like this book because it is full of adventure. I’ve watched the movie since I was little. This is a classic book full of magic. I love the idea of having a young girl scared and alone in the Land of Oz, but it turns out a once in a lifetime experience. The part when she clicked her shoes together made me feel happy. I think this is a book that many middle grade readers will enjoy.

The Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Baum is a very good book.  A girl named Dorothy is from Kansas.  Then a twister happened and this little girl landed in a place called, The Land of Oz.  All she wanted to do is to go back home so she has to go see a wizard to get that wish.  And on the way, she found some friends.

This book also was a movie, so when you're done reading the book you should watch the movie. I liked the characters it made me happy and they all wanted something special. What would your wish be if you could have one?

Battle Heroes: Voices From Afghanistan by Allan Zullo

Battle Heroes: Voices From Afghanistan by Allan Zullo is a great book. It is action packed and has a lot of thrills. It is one of those books that has multiple stories in one book. My favorite story is when a doctor has to run through the battlefield unprotected with no weapons and save a soldier from a severe bullet wound. Then he runs a quarter of a mile back to the helicopter with a soldier on his back. If you enjoy this book, Allen has a whole series of similar books.

I liked this book a lot because it reminds me of when my great grandfather and my papa used to tell me stories about when they were in the war. This book brought me back to the days that they used to tell me stories. If you like action packed books and books that keep you on your heels this is the right book for you.

The U.S. Navy Seals: The Missions by Jennifer M. Besel

If you are not a nonfiction lover then The U.S. Navy Seals: The Missions, by Jennifer M. Besel, might not be for you. The plot of the story is that the U.S. Navy Seals need to do very dangerous missions to protect their country from terrorists and disarm any enemy bombs. What dangers will you read about in the stories? I would say this is for grades 4-6.

The reason I like this book is because it has parts showing the hardcore things these men do.
One thing they do is being handcuffed by their hands and feet.  They do that because it's part of their physical training.

Dogs of War by Sheila Keenan

Dogs of War by Sheila Keenan is a great book for dog lovers. It shows that dogs do a lot for our country.  The book tells the stories of amazing war dogs. War dogs are more than helpers they also give soldiers comfort. The three dogs in the book are inspiring even though they’re dogs. They go through the war with their heads held high. The book also has a variation of settings from tundra to jungle.

The book is both intense and loving. I give the book five stars for its amazing pictures and the great description of the character’s feelings. I’ve never read a book more loving than this one. If you are a lover of action then this book is for YOU! You should definitely read this book. So next time you’re  looking for an action book take a look at Dogs of War.

Lionel Messi: A Soccer Star Who Cares by Kimberly Gatto

In Lionel Messi: A soccer Star Who Cares by Kimberly Gatto, Messi is an amazing soccer player who was very poor as a kid. He has growing problems that causes a disability where he can’t grow normally. When he starts playing soccer, no one thinks he is going to make it anywhere because of his size. In the title the author says, a soccer star who cares. That is because he has like three charity programs and gave about 100,000 dollars to each cancer hospital in his programs.

I relate to this book because I love playing soccer, it is my passion and my life. My favourite team is Barcelona and my favorite player is Lionel Messi, so I really relate to the Lionel Messi biography.

Hundred Percent by Karen Romano Young

Hundred Percent by: Karen Romano Young. Tink and Jackie hate middle school drama. Jackie, the drama queen gets into fights and tries all kinds of ways to get out of them, but just makes it worse. Tink tries to help, but Jackie doesn’t listen. Will Jackie get out of the middle school fights? Read on to find out what they will do to battle the crazy and hectic 6th grade drama. It is problematic.
I love this book. The pictures, the people and the setting are realistic. The book teaches you never to worry about problems that may happen as a 6-7th grader. This book is mature. Some language may not be for a young child. This book has a great star rating from me it is 3.64. Middle school may be difficult but try until you succeed.

The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney

Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney is all about how Greg gets in a pickle because he lost his friend. In the middle he and his brothers go to his Uncle Gary’s wedding. He was the assistant flower boy. He and Rowley had a “HUGE” fight that lead to their friendship being “RUINED”. I wonder if they will be friends again? After that fight Greg was trying to make a new friend because, Rowley has a new best friend and that made Gregory jealous. I have all of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books and you wouldn’t believe how much they make me laugh. Dav Pilkey, and Jeff Kinney are my favorite book writers. Captain Underpants, and Diary Of A Wimpy Kid are my two most favorite series. I think Jeff Kinney is “VERY” creative and has a lot of imagination. I hope you all can agree Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of the most wonderful book series ever.

Greg Heffley, a middle school pre-teen, has many problems throughout the book, The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney. For example he is trying to date a girl named Holly Hills. He goes roller skating one night because he overheard Holly talking about going there that night, but Greg has some bad luck. Will he get to date Holly? Greg also goes to his best friend Rowley’s sleepover, thinking Holly would be there again after overhearing she was going to the sleepover. Was she there or not? Read to find out!

I recommend this book to people who have a good sense of humor. To me this book is funny and more of a 4th to 7th grade book. I also think the author did very good with the book because he made movies about the books. The movies are very family enjoyable. This book reminds me of all the times I read all the other Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and watched the movies.

Out of my Mind by Sharon M. Draper

Out of my Mind by Sharon M. Draper is a heartwarming book. Melody, a ten year old girl, has cerebral palsy and gets bullied a lot in school. She has many adventures and hard times but she tries to live her life to the fullest. When she gets a tool to help her talk, her life changes forever.

This is an AMAZING book. It actually made me shed some tears. Melody is an inspiration, she goes through many hard times yet she stays so strong. I wish I could meet her but she is not real. The author, Sharon, is an amazing writer and did a terrific job on this book.  In our school we have a girl that has similar disabilities like Melody. She has similar ways of life and certain ways to do things too. They both are very strong people that have showed me how to have hope in some really hard situations. I hope that one day you will read this book too!

Webster: Tale of an Outlaw, by Ellen Emerson White

Webster: Tale of an Outlaw, by Ellen Emerson White, is about a dog who was abused.  It seems in all his homes he was mistreated. On his way he saves many people. Later on he makes his toughest rescue. Will he finally find a place he belongs? Will he still be in and out of his shelter? Does he still think he is an outlaw?

I had a dog we rescued from his abusive owners and he turned out really nice. My dog’s name was Whiteboy. He was a pitbull with white fur and black spots. Like Webster, he wasn’t comfortable at first then began to get more comfortable with people. Sadly he just passed away.  Sadly there are a lot of abused animals in the world.

I loved this book because it was very adventurous. I also liked this book because I love animals  and I rescued an abused dog. If you like this book you'll probably like the book, Gaby Lost and Found.  If you love adventures and animals you'll love this book.

The Romeo and Juliet Code by Phoebe Stone

In The Romeo and Juliet Code by Phoebe Stone, During World War II, 11 year old Felicity gets dropped off with her father’s family. Her uncle, granny, and aunt are very secretive with Felicity. They receive letters from her dad postmarked from Portugal, and there is someone referred to as Captain Derek in a secret room upstairs. Out of curiosity, Felicity joins forces with her cousin to find the answers to these mysteries.

This book is great for people who enjoy books about historical events. Also for people who enjoy a bit of mystery too. Personally I’m not really interested in Historical fiction books, but this book is an exception. Now that I’ve read this I hope to read more in the future. I hope you choose to read this amazing book as well!
