Maya and the Robot is by Eve L. Ewing

Maya and the Robot is by Eve L. Ewing and was a 2023 RICBA nominee. It is about a young girl named Maya and opens with a great scene where her robot is flinging mashed potatoes and other food all over the cafeteria! It's a new school year and Maya is in a class without all of her friends from last year. She is feeling quite lonely, until she discovers a partially completed robot in the back of her neighborhood store.

I really enjoyed this story. There are some very touching scenes where Maya is coming to terms with loss and change in her life and the lives of some of her friends. It's also a great book to promote science, girls in science and robotics.

Nerds by Michael Buckley

In the book, Nerds by Michael Buckley, there is a girl who is fighting a scientist. The scientist is on a train fighting the girl.  She is about to fall off when she catches herself. Then the liquid spills out and all over them. The characters are nerds who were being bullied so they become scientists. The villains are attacking the science nerds.

I think my rating for this book would be a five star. You should read this if you like action. I like action stories because it’s described very well. NERDS, stands for National Espionage Rescue and Defense Society. The NERDS fight villains. I like how the books in this series are set up.

FBI Heroes by Allan Zullo

During the school year I read a book that was titled, FBI Heroes, by Allan Zullo. This is a realistic, science, nonfiction, informational, crime book.  In this book there are many selections and many investigators who solve crimes from murders to kidnappings, Friday night bank robbers to terrorist attacks. The FBI Heroes don’t let the criminals get away with anything and that’s why they live by the motto Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity. The book took place in the present at all different crime scenes. This book is very informational to students who want to study or be an F.B.I Agent for a job. I would make a text to world connection because this book teaches you how to be sneaky heroes without letting the criminals know! These criminals receive severe punishments, such as the death penalty or life in jail. This book and all its themes interest me a lot.  I would highly recommend this book to students who enjoy reading Allan Zullo books, or the amazing Ten True Tales series!  Don't forget to check out Allan Zullo’s amazing website by clicking on the title link above.
