The Adventure is Now by Jess Redmen is a 2023 RICBA nominee. Milton is off for an adventure on Lone Island with his uncle, in order to give his parents some time to figure out their problems. But Lone Island has some surprises in store, magical creatures, fantastical flora, if only Milton and his new friends can find them. They have to, because the island is in danger if they don't.

I love fantasy stories! In the story a group of kids have to follow clues left behind in a field guide. I loved the way the characters had to work together as a team to solve the puzzles. It reminded me of the levels in a video game or coding! I think this book would make a great movie.

Bad Island by Doug TenNapel

The book Bad Island by Doug TenNapel, is so cool because it has the funniest characters.  Their names are Reese, Lyle, Janie, Mom, and Dad.  I think you would like the characters because they’re funny and weird.   They also help each other.  I liked when Reese and Dad saw a giant rock creature that was quick and had a high jump.  The book Bad Island is set on a mysterious island.  The author’s message for this book is to be careful what you do and work together.  Bad Island is exciting and very interesting because of all the weird creatures.  Another reason you should read Bad Island, is because it is a great graphic novel.  What do you think happens next?  Also what do you think the villains look like?

Searching for Sky by Jillian Cantor

If you like adventure books, this book might be for you.  Searching for Sky by Jillian Cantor is very adventurous in its own kind of way.  Sky and River have both been on an island that they call “Ocean” ever since they were two years old.  Sky and River were taken to California by two men on a sailboat.  When they got to California they had no clue what a “normal” life was.  When they had lived on the island they had to do everything on their own.  This book relates to some real-life situations.  It relates to them because when Sky and River come to California, she gets very frustrated with herself because she doesn't know how to do basic things.  Just like some people that you know might not know how to do basic things. Hope you enjoy the book. What will happen next??

Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord

Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord is about a girl named Tess who lives on an island in Maine called Bethsaida.  Tess and her family find out that Maine is going to shut down the island’s one room school house where Tess’s mom works.  Her family would have to move to the mainland to live.  The only way they can stay on the island is if the population went up.  To increase the population some of the people on the island adopt foster kids. Tess and her family adopt Aaron.  At first Aaron does not like the family and wants to run away to find his mom, but if Aaron does run away then all of the children at the island would have to go to the mainland for school.  This book reminds me of an island I’ve been to and makes me think about what it would be like for me to live on an island.   If you like a book that is realistic fiction then you’d like this book.

Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord is about a family who lives on an island in Maine.  The school on the island needs more students to stay open.  To keep the school open some of the families on the island take in foster children.  One family takes in a teenage boy named Aaron.  Aaron misses his mom, so him and a girl named Tess from the family that adopted Aron, come up with a plan to get Aaron to see his mom.  Read Touch Blue to find out their plan and how it worked out.  I recommend you read Cynthia Lord's Touch Blue.
