Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston

Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston is about Amari, a young Black girl who discovers a ticking briefcase left by her missing brother – and learns that her brother was a famous agent working for the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs and that there is a magical world hiding before her very own eyes. In the book, Amari and the night brothers, Amari befriends Elsie
(who is a weredragon).

I love this book because it has lots of events that are very mysterious and leave you wondering “Why did this happen?” Amari is a poor black girl who is really smart and at a whites-only school. She gets bullied a lot because she is black and also because she is poor. This book reminds me of the Harry Potter book series, just with fewer books.

The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill

The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill is 2017's Newbery Award Book. This book is the story of a town drowning in sorrow. Every year they believe they must take the youngest child born to a clearing in the woods and leave her there as an offering to the witch who lives in the woods. The townspeople are told it is the only way to stay safe from the witch. The story is about one little baby girl, Luna who is left in the clearing and the witch who comes to collect her.

If you like well told stories of magic, with witches, warlocks, dragons and bog monsters, you'll love this book. I couldn't put it down! In my opinion a well deserved Newbery winner.

Life of Zarf: the Trouble With Weasels by Rob Harrell

Life of Zarf: the Trouble With Weasels by Rob Harrell was an entertaining adventure and the first of a new series that is sure to be very popular. This fractured fairy tale is one of the RICBA 2016 nominees. Readers will love the funny comicstrip style drawings that add to the story of Zarf, a troll who is at the bottom of the popularity scale in his school. When he has a run in with Prince Roquefort, Zarf is left with his two only friends Kevin (a pig, and descendent of "The Three Little Pigs") and Chester (a not-so-funny court jester). Zarf's problems multiply as the prince challenges him to a joust, Snuffweasels capture the king, and Zarf ends up behind bars in the dungeon. Read to find out if the hot-tempered troll can save himself and the kingdom, and prepare to laugh a lot along the way.

Dr. Ernest Drake’s Dragonology Handbook by Ernest Drake, edited by Dugald Steer

Do you believe in dragons?  Do you want to find them?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should read Dr. Ernest Drake’s Dragonology Handbook.  This is the perfect book for a wanna-be dragonologist.  This book is informational and tells you pretty much everything you want to know about dragons.  These wonderful creatures come from all over the world!  Dragons are some of the cleverest creatures on Earth.  Want to know why they are clever?  They make it hard for people to find them, plus, they can find treasure.  When I read this book I was like “OMG!!!! This book is super duper super-duper super-duper super-duper epic!!!!!!!!!” and I was sooo excited. If you really like dragons, I definitely recommend this book.

The Ice Dragon by George R.R Martin

The Ice Dragon by George R.R Martin is about a little girl named Adara.  When she was born the ice dragon came to town.  People say that the ice dragon came for her. The ice dragon came back every year in the winter.  One day Adara was playing in the snow, and this big thing flew over her.  She had No clue what it was.  She just went on playing.  Adara stopped playing and looked at it. Then the ice dragon saw Adara and flew down to her.  She was so scared she couldn’t move.  The ice dragon flew down to the ground right next to her. The town people saw and got guns and anything they could find to hurt the ice dragon.  Adara said, “NO, stop!!!  DON’T hurt it.” Then after petting the ice dragon she got on it.  I love this book because I love fantasy.  I hope you like it because I sure do!

Kenny and the Dragon by Tony Diterlizzi

Kenny and the Dragon by Tony Diterlizzi was a really great book.  You might know TONY DITERLIZZI by “Spiderwick” because he helped make that book with Holly Black.  Well back to my book, lets see, this book is really good because Kenny(the bunny) lives on a farm and one day his dad smells smoke, so he goes to check it out and he finds out there was a Dragon living in a cave (his name is Grahame).  The dad runs home and yells, “WE NEED TO MOVE NOW!!!!!!!!!”  And his wife says, “Honey calm down, now tell me what happened.” So while Kenny’s dad is saying what happened, Kenny goes to check it out.  He finds out that Grahame is really nice.  Grahame tells Kenny how he came to the world of animals.  One day there was an earthquake and he fell in a HUGE crack in the ground.  He lived on lava rocks until he NEEDED to get out, so he dug and dug till he came to a cave, A.K.A Kenny’s farm. Read to find out what happens next.

Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

If you know me, you know I love fantasy books.  Dragon Rider is a great fantasy about an orphan boy, a brownie, and a dragon of course.  They go on a quest together in search of a safer home for the dragon, but meet all sorts of dangers along the way.

The author of this book, Cornelia Funke, is the author of the Inkheart series.  So, if you've read them, or if you've seen the movie, you might want to give Dragon Rider a chance.  Let me know if you read it, and I'll want to know what you think of it too!
