The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

Today I will be sharing with you The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. The Tale of Despereaux is a very unique book. It is about a mouse and a rat that both want to get to the light. The rat is supposed to be in the darkness (the dungeon), but is hoping to get to the light (upstairs in the castle). Then he falls in a soup and almost gets caught, but runs back down to the darkness. On the other hand, Despereaux, the mouse breaks the rules by talking to a human princess and gets put in the dungeon darkness. This mouse loves to listen to music and stories. The Princess Pea gets put in the darkness by the vengeful rat. Will all three of them work together to get out?

I liked this book because I like animals. I also hate it when animals are hurt or when they are endangered. I feel like this book is also cool and has some new words that I did not know. The author, Kate DiCamillo, is also my favorite author and this is one of my favorite books by her.

The Little Princess by Frances Hodgeson Burnett

The Little Princess by Frances Hodgeson Burnett is not a book for little kids like you would expect.  It is a wonderful, yet sad story about a rich young girl named Sara Crewe.  Sara’s father had to go to India because of his work, but the air was not healthy for kids to breath.  Sara’s father ends up enrolling 7-year old Sara in Miss Minchin’s Select Seminary for Young Girls, a boarding school in America.  Miss Minchin only favors Sara because of her father’s money, but what happens when Sara’s wealth disappears?  What will greedy Miss Minchin do to Sara?  Read about Sara Crewe and her mission to stay optimistic when she is forced to work as a maid, and is forbidden to talk to the other girls.  Later, Sara becomes good friends with Becky, the other maid who lives in the attic with Sara.  She teaches Becky how to pretend and tells her lots of wonderful and creative stories.   I have a very difficult challenge for you.   I challenge you to go read this classic book, and try not to cry.   I doubt you will be able to resist crying while you read this amazing story!   I hope you decide to accept my challenge.

Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier

Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes is Jonathan Auxier's first novel and it's a good one.  If you like fantasy books, as I'm sure you know I do, you'll like this one.  Honestly it took me a little while to get in to it.  I think I was grossed out by the beginning of the book, when it explains that Peter Nimble is blind, found as an infant floating on the sea with his eyeballs pecked out by a raven.  See what I mean, gross!  But there is a reason for everything in a book and in the end you'll understand the strange beginning.  This is an adventure story, Peter, a thief and orphan is sent on a quest to find someone who needs his help.   He must follow the clues left on a note that was placed in a bottle and sent adrift on the sea.  There is magic and mystery, danger and swashbuckling fight scenes, monsters and of course a maiden in distress.  Are you interested yet?
