The Adventure is Now by Jess Redmen

The Adventure is Now by Jess Redmen is a 2023 RICBA nominee. Milton is off for an adventure on Lone Island with his uncle, in order to give his parents some time to figure out their problems. But Lone Island has some surprises in store, magical creatures, fantastical flora, if only Milton and his new friends can find them. They have to, because the island is in danger if they don't.

I love fantasy stories! In the story a group of kids have to follow clues left behind in a field guide. I loved the way the characters had to work together as a team to solve the puzzles. It reminded me of the levels in a video game or coding! I think this book would make a great movie.

Willodeen by Katherine Applegate

Willodeen by Katherine Applegate is a 2023 RICBA nominee. Willodeen loves nature, all of nature. But she especially has a soft spot for screechers. Screechers are creatures that smell so bad, other people hate them. The people of Perchance, where Willodeen lives, instead love hummingbears. They are small flying bears that attract a lot of tourists that want to see the beautiful bubble nests they build in the trees. The town has a problem though, every year it is harder to find any hummingbears. What could be wrong? Will anyone listen to Willodeen's ideas in a town that shuns her because she is different?

I too love nature and know that it is a delicate balance. Every tiny bug is important. If you are a nature lover, and a lover of fantasy fiction, this may be the book for you! You may have read some of the other stories by Applegate.... like The One and Only Ivan, or The One and Only Bob.

Amulet 8: Supernova by Kazu Kibuishi

This is a book review about Amulet 8: Supernova by Kazu Kibuishi. This book is from a series of 9 books but right now there are 8. The ninth, and the final book in the Amulet series has not came out yet. Google says book 9 will come out October 25, 2022. The main character is Emily. She is the strongest character in the Amulet series. She is powerful because of an amulet she found in book 1. If you have not read book 1 yet, this is how she got the amulet. In The beginning, Emily’s dad died in a car crash. Then she moved into her great grandpas houes and found the amulet.

This book kind of reminds me of Ukraine and Russia because they're in a war and in the Amulet book series there's also a war going on. If you like action-packed fiction themed graphic novels with magical powers and wars, this is the book for you.

The Guardian of the Realm by Elisabetta Dami

The Guardian of the Realm by Elisabetta Dami writing under the pseudonym Geronimo Stilton is full of adventure, action, and comedy. There are many surprising moments, and unexpected twists and turns. There are many characters, animals, and other fantastical creatures. One of the surprising moments is when a HUGE sea snake comes from the water and the main character is terrified! Will he find a friend?

The events of The Guardian of the Realm reminded me of the first book in the series. I want to do exactly what they did in this book, like go to new places, explore, and much more. This is the 11th book in the series Of the Kingdom of Fantasy. For me, the title of the book expanded my imagination and beliefs.

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt is very interesting because in the story there's this spring and if you drink from it you’ll live forever. While Jesse and Winnie were traveling through the woods, Winne found the spring and wanted to drink it because she was thirsty. But Jesse told her not to drink the spring but she wanted to drink it. So the Tucks kidnapped her to tell her about the water. While she was getting kidnapped, there was this man in the yellow suit who saw it. So the man in the yellow suit negotiated with Winnie’s parents to get the spring in order for him to tell them where Winnie is.

The reason I liked this book is because it’s fiction and it’s a really interesting story. Also this book is a mystery. It reminds me of the time when I felt like running away because I was annoyed by my parents. I also would love to live forever.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes by Scott Cawthon

Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes by Scott Cawthon is about a group of friends sneaking into an old restaurant where there is a seemingly  abandoned set of animatronics, shut down due to horrible smells coming from inside the animatronics. Although they seem completely harmless and shut down, that's not the case. There's 2 versions of this book: the graphic novel and the regular chapter book. In my opinion the graphic novel is just a lot more informative, the other one is still pretty good too. But it's probably around 6-7th grade reading level. The graphic novel is a lot shorter, but it really shows all the scenes by using images.

I really liked this book when I read it. I don't usually read a lot but I read this book in around 4 hours. I would definitely recommend it to people as it has a lot of action and adventure (and story) . It has a good connection to the game it's based on, with all the animatronics in the correct spots they were in the game.

Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston

Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston is about Amari, a young Black girl who discovers a ticking briefcase left by her missing brother – and learns that her brother was a famous agent working for the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs and that there is a magical world hiding before her very own eyes. In the book, Amari and the night brothers, Amari befriends Elsie
(who is a weredragon).

I love this book because it has lots of events that are very mysterious and leave you wondering “Why did this happen?” Amari is a poor black girl who is really smart and at a whites-only school. She gets bullied a lot because she is black and also because she is poor. This book reminds me of the Harry Potter book series, just with fewer books.

The Land of Stories, The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer

I love this book, The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer, so much because the book makes you feel like you were just transported into a magical world. I think the plot is wonderful and is filled with magical ideas. I love how Chris Colfer included all my favorite fairy tales! My favorite part of the book is when we remeet Queen Red Riding and Froggy who were in the first book because it made me smile. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is packed full with adventure, mystery, and magic. If you like Harry Potter then I think you will like this series, In The Land of Stories.

In, The Enchantress Returns, Alex and Conner who are brother and sister go back to the land of stories because they missed the magical world. When they get there they find out that the world is at risk! Alex and Conner have rounded up some old friends to help their world. If you want to learn more, I guess you are going to have to read it. If you like Harry Potter then I think you will like this.

Zoe in Wonderland by Brenda Wood

Zoe in Wonderland by Brenda Wood is about a girl named Zoe and her family. Their last name is Reindeer. The main characters are Zoe, her dad, brother and her sister. Zoe has a wild imagination, but a normal life until a stranger comes into her father’s plant store. Her life is about to change.

The reason I liked this book is because she is in a garden shop reading and I like reading. Also it's kind of like a mystery, but not, because it’s also a lot about family. That's why I liked it.

Tricked by Jen Calonita

I wanted to review the book Tricked by Jen Calonita . It is about a girl named Gilly who used to be a thief and a bad girl, but then she finds herself in Fairy Tale Reform School, which turns her into the opposite. Now she is a hero. She has been released out of Fairy Tale Reform School (FTRS), because now she is a fully reformed hero, at least FTRS thinks so. But then, Rumpelstiltskin comes along with some trouble, and Gilly wants to find a way to go and rescue her school and her friends before Rumpelstiltskin takes his revenge.

I like the book because it is like an adventure, and I love adventures. Also, the girl Gilly is tough, like me, and I like tough people. I always have an adventure everyday. My life is an adventure like Gilly’s, which never stops. I live for adventure. I like stories, especially when there is trouble or evil in them. I love adventure books and movies. Adventure is my favorite part of life.

Rise of the Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz

In Rise of the Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz, King Triton’s trident is lost underwater. Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay have to find the magical trident so no one else does. If someone else has the trident they can take over the oceans and probably the world.

I think it´s a great book and a good way to pass the time. It’s interesting because it’s about the ocean and I like oceans. What I like about the book is that it is unique and part of the Descendants series.

The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King

In the Kingdom of Delain Peter is soon to become king with his father soon to be dead and Peter as the eldest child, or will his destiny be ruined by the castle magician who will do anything to make the younger son Thomas king? Will the magician even frame someone for murder? Read The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King to find out.
My thoughts on the book are that the book has a very well written plot and that the book itself is well written. My favorite character in the book is Peter mostly because he is so smart and daring at the same time. Then another reason why I like this book is because it has a lot of funny moments. One funny moment that I liked was when Peter beat up the prison guard with ease.
My connection with the book is my relationship with my younger brother. Mostly because me and my little brother are really close as brothers. Another connection with the book is I remember climbing up and down a rope for the first time, because in the book Peter tries to escape prison on a rope.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling, it is Harry Potter’s fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and it is an exciting yet scary year. He has been seeing things in his sleep and his scar has been hurting at certain times, which means Voldemort is mad or near. Hermione, Ron and some other students at Hogwarts want to learn Defence Against the Dark Arts just in case he comes back. The only problem is that the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Professor Umbridge banned any sort of group or club without her permission. Will they get caught and possibly get expelled or will everything be okay? Will Voldemort return? Find out in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is a longer book, but it was interesting the whole way through. I had so many feelings throughout the whole book. At some points I was happy others I was angry or upset. I liked the book because of the fantasy. There are many things in it that could not happen in real life. I think that this is cool. This is one of the things that makes me want to read more.

The Land of Stories- Worlds Collide by Christopher Colfer

In The Land of Stories: Worlds Collide by Christopher Colfer, Alex and Conner have constructed an army to defeat all of the literary characters of their childhood, lead by Captain Hook, The Wicked Witch of the West, and The Queen of Hearts. Right as they were heading off to defeat the army, Alex went missing. When Conner finds Alex, she is under an evil spell. Will Conner save Alex or will he be defeated?

I loved how the author painted a vivid image in my mind when I read this book. It all came together no matter how many cliff hangers or how many mysteries there were. When you read this book you will be swept away to a fairy-tale land where danger and magic are in the air. When I was little and still to this day I love fairy tales! This book made me feel happy, scared, and sad all at the same time. If you love fairy tales definitely read this book! I definitely recommend this book and series! Hope you read it!

Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel

In Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel, there is a problem.  Shade, the main character looked at the sun, which you're not supposed to do.  There was a big war because the bats looked at the sun long ago.  Because Shade looked at the sun, the owls burned the silverwing roost down.  When they started to migrate, Shade got lost in a storm and met a brightwing named Marina.  They went to find the silverwings but met two huge bats named Goth and Throbb.  Goth and Throbb then turned on Shade and Marina.  Will Shade and Marina win or will Goth and Throbb have a good snack?

I think that Silverwing was a good book and my teacher read it to my class.  It had very sad parts and parts that kept you on the edge of your seat.  If you like adventure books or bats, then this is the book for you.  The book has many cliffhangers and it is very exciting.  It kind or reminds me of when I was a kid and I read Magic Tree House books. They have really good cliffhangers as well.  If you read this book then you will want to read every single book in the series.

Edited by Skullmaster

In Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel, the problem is Shade went to see the sun and you're not supposed to because the bats did not fight in the battle of the birds and the beasts and the owls caught him.  He tried to get away and his mom came and rescued him.  He made the owls come and they burned down his roost.

I like this book because it is about bats and I love bats.  We are reading this book right now in our classroom and everyone likes it.  It is a really good book. I recommend this book. Also there is a sequel called Firewing.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling is interesting. It is for grades 4-8. It is about a wizard that goes to a witchcraft and wizardry school called Hogwarts. His name is Harry Potter. His parents have died from The Evil Lord Voldemort, so he lives with his mean uncle, aunt, and cousin. He finds that he has a godfather that is a “Murderer” and his godfather has escaped a torturing prison called Azkaban.  But Harry's friend's pet rat is really the culprit…Harry has to go back in time to save his godfather.

I think this book is entertaining and suspenseful. Every page is exciting and interesting. When I first read it, I thought I was never going to finish it because it was so long! But I read it really fast because it was super interesting. I recommend reading the book and then watching the movie.

I connect to this book because the characters are sort of around my age. They are around 10-13 years old. I also connect to this book because when the characters are at school, sometimes it's hard. Sometimes when I'm at school it is also hard. Another reason I think this book connects to me is because one of the main characters, Harry Potter, has 2 close friends. I have 2 friends in my class and 1 not in my school. I think I really connected with this book!

Review by -mmm402

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is written by J.K. Rowling. When I first read this book it caught me off guard. This book is the third book of the Harry potter series!  This book focuses on Harry potter the young wizard. In this book Harry is in his third year at Hogwarts.  Harry faces many problems but overcomes them with a Zap! Harry will go through many adventures with friends and family!

The reason why I like The Harry Potter series is because I feel that these books can make you feel many different emotions. Like happy, sad, mad, scared, and very weird. Another reason why I like this book is because I like to read about fairytales. If you do too, then Harry Potter is the book for you.

Land of Stories: the Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer

In Land of Stories: the Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer, the two main characters, Alex and Conner, are having a bad year. Alex wishes for a way to get out of reality. One day the twins grandma gives them a book called, The Land of Stories. After a day it starts to glow and hum.  The twins find out that the book is a portal. They jump in and an adventure begins!

I can relate to this book from when I was at my old school and I was feeling stressed out and I wanted to leave that school. Now I'm at a better school! I wish that the twins had a better way back from the portal. You’ll have to read the book to find out how the portal works.

But Andy’s mom gave Andy a new toy, and his name was Buzz Lightyear Action Figure for his birthday. Woody doesn't like him at first but then he likes him at the end. There's going to be more adventures in their lives.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who goes on an adventure with a wizard named Gandalf The Grey and some dwarfs. He wants to find the arkenstone in a mountain filled with gold and jewels. A huge dragon named Smaug protects the gold and jewels in the lonely mountain. In the middle of the story Bilbo gets captured by giants and escapes. He also gets a sword named Sting which he brings with him on his adventure. Read to find out about the events in the story.

I connected to this book because I like fantasy books full of adventure.  I liked the book because of the huge amount of adventure and massive creatures like giant spiders and giants, plus a dragon. I think a lot of people will like this book.
